On this Veterans Day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who have served our nation with courage, resilience, and selflessness.
Over the past 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with several military professionals whose discipline, leadership, and sense of purpose deeply inspire me. This year, I had the honor of working with Robert, a U.S. Army sniper whose story is a remarkable testament to perseverance and service.
After sustaining an injury in Iraq, Robert rebuilt his life with determination—graduating magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago, excelling in compensation consulting at Korn Ferry, and later helping found a startup. Beyond his professional success, he led humanitarian efforts to deliver critical aid during the Ukraine war.
Robert earned admission offers from both MIT and Kellogg’s EMBA programs, each with scholarships, and chose to pursue his MBA at Kellogg. True to his motto, “Service before Self,” he continues to serve—now through leadership, mentorship, and impact.
I had shared Robert’s story earlier this year; his journey from military service to top EMBA admits at MIT and Kellogg is one I’ll never forget. On this Veterans Day, I wanted to honor him again by resharing my blog post featuring the video interview and full transcript.
