SUCCESS STORIES

Accepted into INSEAD’s GEMBA & IMD EMBA program with MER’s support. Thanks, Poonam

I decided to use MER services because of extremely positive opinion online and the fact that Poonam is a 1-person shop, which led me to believe that services would be personalized. It was the best choice I could have made. Free consultation further confirmed my hypothesis, and I remember that we spoke for more than 30 minutes than we initially planned. This was just one of many calls that took longer because she was always focused on understanding the objective and reaching the outcome rather than time, which shows her flexibility and commitment.

I noticed she was a bit more serious during our free consultation. Maybe this was related to the fact that I was a bit unclear about timelines, and she was unsure of my commitment. It didn’t affect me in any way, it’s great that she showed her warm and caring personality from the initial call until the end of the process.

1. Resumé Review

Poonam’s Initial thoughts during our free consultation were that my resume was solid. So I certainly felt very confident about it. However, when we got into our resume consultation, we only realized how many ways we could improve it and show my professional accomplishments and a bit of my character. She made sure to highlight accomplishments/impacts very clearly and concisely. We consolidated descriptions of my CV into bullets but also included details that show my interests, extracurricular activities that I never included in the past. When I look at my CV today, it shows who I am as a professional and person and that was never the case until our review. She helped me to rewrite bullets in a clear manner that was applied consistently with the STAR method. Her suggestions on the font size, details to include, and little things such as appropriate margin made a difference to make my final CV perfect.

2. Essay Help

The start of essay work was the brainstorming questionnaire you have designed. It is a perfect starting point of reflection for MBA applicants that made me reflect on my life decisions and what has influenced me to pursue different personal and professional choices. I feel like I came out knowing myself better after finalizing the questionnaire with clarity about my current and desired state, personally and professionally.

The brainstorming questionnaire was just the beginning of the journey we embarked with the EMBA application for INSEAD & IMD. The initial essay consultation was really helpful in understanding my strength and where to focus. I may have lost focus if it was not for Poonam’s advice and persistence to push for better content. Our conversations were deep, and she made me feel comfortable speaking about things I don’t usually tend to open up. She has a gift for understanding people and bringing the best out of them!

She also has a gift for creating the right essay structure to capture the reader’s attention. Sometimes, I remembered having the right story, but only after her suggestions about structure/organization the essay really came to life. She is a master of structure and editing. I always asked her how she succeeded in using so few words while maintaining the content. Can you please share this secret with me?  Just kidding.

3. LOR Guidance/Review

Poonam made great suggestions to incorporate examples by all of my recommenders, and only then I felt that LORs started to come to life. Also, my recommenders were very positive about content recommendations and editing.

4. Turnarounds (Response time) meeting Strict Deadlines

She answered all my questions in a clear and timely manner. She was always on time with agreed deadlines- ahead of time on our INSEAD & IMD application that we both worked with a lot of heart and dedication to submitting nearly a week ahead of time. I am delighted to inform you that I have received admission offers from both INSEAD’s and IMD’s EMBA programs. Keep up your great work, and thank you for this journey! You are really doing an outstanding job in editing and preparing MBA applicants. If I hear of anyone applying for an MBA/EMBA, you certainly have my recommendation.

Accepted into INSEAD's GEMBA Programme. Thanks, Poonam.

I first got knowledge of MER’s service offerings after reading and watching Poonam’s compelling interview with Shailesh, one of her successful students. His story resonated with me, seeing as I intended to apply to the same school. Poonam’s great reviews on GMAT Club though convincing, the clincher was the confirmation of her great qualities and capabilities by Shailesh. The free consultation was very engaging and eye-opening. Poonam was able to critically assess my profile to determine my ‘fit’ and eligibility for my school of choice. I was very impressed by her thorough and deliberate approach. This set the tone for the work ahead.

1. Resumé Review: With my initial resume being too long, the editing process to bring it within stipulated parameters was very enlightening, though cumbersome. I was introduced to the STAR method at our counseling session. This ensured better structure and organization. Poonam guided me on how to better highlight my accomplishments and impact to guarantee a positive outcome.

2. Essay help: Poonam’s guidance and instructions throughout the essay writing process were well thought out and tailored to my unique abilities. The counselling session to brainstorm ideas led to a better understanding of my profile and strategic positioning of my stories to create maximum impact. Poonam’s topnotch editing skills were used to improve sentence structure, correct grammar, and organize my stories for better narrative flow. It was interesting to see her trim my essays down to the required word limits, making them fit for purpose. Poonam was able to deal with all my questions and queries exhaustively, and on time too.

3. LOR Guidance/Review: Poonam’s advice and suggestions went a long way in helping my recommenders put together compelling recommendations.

Poonam’s commitment and remarkable response time was a source of motivation. Her quick turnarounds encouraged me to press on even when I felt overwhelmed. I was surprised at the amount of knowledge I gained within the short time of working with Poonam. Apart from achieving our aim of crafting very compelling essays, Poonam’s customized approach provided an enabling environment that impacted me positively. I gained new knowledge that helped improve my writing and research skills. Also, Poonam’s genuine concern for the success of her clients through her words and actions distinguishes her from other consultants. Consequently, I am happy to say that I have been accepted into INSEAD’s GEMBA program. I would highly recommend MER’s services to prospective applicants any day.

Experience with MER for Warwick DLMBA application

I have worked in the banking industry for 10 years. In my profession, I predominantly worked on Excel models and PowerPoint presentations. So I knew that I was out of practice when it came to essays. When I contacted Poonam, I had already started my MBA application journey and written draft essays. However, I knew that I could get my ideas across better and wanted help with that. I did a lot of research online, and based on reviews, MER sounded like the best possible fit for my needs.

Free consultation: I decided to sign up with MER after having a Zoom call with Poonam. She came across as well experienced and took the time to understand my background and goals. Poonam provided me with a clear understanding of her approach and methods and suggested services that would best suit my needs.

For me, this was key; I was not looking for someone to just edit my grammar or writing style, but someone who could help me express my ideas as clearly as possible. Based on our initial call, I was comfortable that Poonam could do this well.

Counseling Session on Zoom: Prior to the Zoom session, I had sent Poonam the first drafts of my essays and Resume. She went through each document thoroughly and provided me with nuanced feedback. I appreciated how candid she was. Some of the questions she raised helped me see my essays with new eyes and changed how I approached them for the better.

Resumé Review: Poonam did an excellent job of reviewing my resume. Having been in the corporate world for a long time, working in various roles, it is easy to forget or underplay some of your accomplishments. She asked probing questions about some past accomplishments and suggested ways to present them appropriately. The final version of the resume she helped me craft paints an accurate picture of my experiences and accomplishments.

Essay Help: I appreciated how Poonam took the time to analyze the essay prompts and how I responded to them. From a content perspective, she identified relevant additional angles that I could bring into my essays. Through her suggestions, I was able to craft short and concise essays that communicated multiple ideas clearly. I definitely feel that the final drafts of my essays are more ‘ideas rich’ than the initial versions. In one of my essays, I had to analyze an idea from multiple angles, and I found organizing my thoughts extremely challenging. Poonam recommended a structure that allowed me to better present the idea, its benefits, and considerations for its implementation in a logical manner. I really appreciated her support with writing a convincing conclusion that tied everything together. She always provided clear answers to my queries via email and within the comments section of my essay documents.

Editing Skills: Poonam is a true expert. Seeing how she can seamlessly bring multiple sentences together concisely has been a great learning experience for me. Through her editing, I could cut out unnecessary verbiage and present concise essays that clearly articulated my ideas.

Response Time: Her turnaround time was excellent, especially when we were working with an 8-hour time zone difference. In our initial conversation, we had discussed timelines, and Poonam had made great suggestions. She reverted to my drafts within 24-48 hours, and we met the final deadline comfortably.

It was great working with Poonam. She is candid, friendly, and helpful. I enjoyed working with her and learned a lot about how to bring ideas across succinctly; I will definitely be applying some of these skills to other areas of my life. I applied to only one school-Warwick, and I have received an admission offer with a 25% scholarship.

Accepted into top MS programs

I wanted to apply for MS programs in the US, for which I wanted MER’s help in reviewing my essays, as it is one of the best admissions consultants in the country.

In my initial call, Ms. Poonam asked me about my interest in various schools where I wanted to apply, and based on my existing profile/resume, shared honest feedback. She highlighted my strengths and weaknesses in a very constructive manner which helped me choose schools and programs wisely.

Over the essay discussion Zoom call, Ms. Poonam took a keen interest in knowing my story and guided me on how to write it better for a greater impact. After her guidance in the Zoom session, I was able to write my essay in a more structured manner and effectively narrate my stories and experiences.

Writing several pages is easy, but compressing it within the given word limit whilst keeping the essence of the story intact was the biggest challenge I faced. Ms. Poonam helped me a great deal in this by suggesting ways through which I can tell my story in a more concise form without reducing the impact.

Ms. Poonam was very prompt in answering all my queries and helped me throughout my journey by being very encouraging and showing confidence in me.

Ms. Poonam is ‘true to her words.’ Whatever deadline she had set after discussing it with me, she made sure to help me finalize my essays at least a day or two before that. I would suggest MER to other prospective applicants as Ms. Poonam is very talented, responsible, and a wonderful human being who helps bring out the best in you. By the end of my essay-writing journey, I was amazed to see how well I could write and learned so much about myself. All this became possible as Ms. Poonam asked the right questions, pushed me to think harder, and showed tremendous confidence in my abilities.

Reasons to sign up for MER services:

1. The feedback I read on MER services and especially the personalized touch by Mrs. Poonam, made me opt for MER services. This is an edge that you get from MER over the rest.

2. Another main reason was that she had already worked with successful applicants for the university I was applying for.

3. Moreover, the possibility to choose the type of services that you want to purchase out of a plethora of services rather than having only one option of buying a school package makes MER distinct.

Initial Call: During the initial call, Mrs. Poonam guided me in the right direction regarding how to best tackle my essay as well as the resumé. She explained to me what the essay prompt was asking for, and she also asked me questions to familiarize herself with my professional background. This helped in building up my confidence to write the essays and resumé and not feel lost.

Counseling Session to discuss resume and essays: During the counseling session, Mrs. Poonam made sure that I understood what her comments from her editing process meant and brought me back on track if ever I diverted from the essay prompt. I really appreciate the fact that she took all the time that was required to answer all my questions that I had and go through both the essays and resumé line by line during the meeting without having a hard ending time.

Poonam tries to understand the applicant’s profile and provides guidance on how to incorporate some specifics in the essay and resumé during the initial and counselling sessions. She ensures that the story flows throughout the essay. Also, the comment section whereby we both interact regarding some points does help a lot there.

Answering queries: Mrs. Poonam is very quick at responding to queries by email, and she does so even after her working hours. You would never have to wait for a reply from her.

Turnarounds (Response time): I was very impressed by the turnaround time, and Mrs. Poonam is known to abide by her committed assignment timeline. But at the same time, she is equally comprehensive should you have any problem in abiding by the agreed timeline.

I really enjoyed working with Poonam, and she has impressed me on a lot of fronts, but the main one is that she sticks by her words. She is very conscious of the timing of an assignment. Yes, I will definitely recommend your services to prospective applicants, provided the latter are serious in their applications and are able to cope with deadlines, as I wouldn’t want them to be a pain for her by not being respectful of her time. I am happy to say that I have been accepted to my target school – the Manchester Global Part-time MBA program.

I came across MER during a Google search and then read about it on the GMAT club. Positive reviews enticed me to leverage MER. I moved pretty quickly through the first two drafts, and the Zoom session happened after draft 2. It helped in several ways – to identify key areas that need to be improved, zero in on specific paragraphs that need editing, etc. Poonam pointed in her feedback during the session, which suited my working style.

Poonam spent time going through my profile which helped both of us focus on specific areas only. My first draft contained the stories that I wanted to include in the essays. They were not well organized, were verbose, and needed better organization. Poonam was very good at ensuring that all the required corrections were made to the essays.

Editing was one area that made a tremendous difference. My essays were well over the limit on the number of words. Poonam’s work made the magic. Besides correcting punctuation and structuring sentences, she was able to make the stories concise and to the point.

Poonam was prompt in responses and answers to queries. As promised in the Agreement, Poonam was always on time. I am a stickler when it comes to timelines because of my work schedule. So her timely responses helped both of us move forward quickly.

I am accepted into LBS Sloan Master’s program in Strategy and Leadership. I would definitely recommend MER to prospective applicants.

Excellent guidance from Poonam helped me get into the Wharton EMBA- my first choice

I signed up for MER services for help and guidance with MBA application essays and resume. After the first review of resume and essays, we had two long counseling sessions on Zoom. What I liked the most was that though each session was scheduled for 1 hour, Poonam did not bother about how long it took until we got the perfect outcome. It was good to be asked questions about my motivation to apply for MBA. Poonam made me think deeper and dig into myself and be clear about my own objectives as well as background. It helped me to articulate my thoughts. Here are my thoughts on each aspect of the process :

1. Resumé building:

Before this year, I had never thought about building my resume for a generic or business-focused role. My resume was completely technical and full of very industry-specific jargon. Poonam helped with picking out what was important and then translating the technical achievements to plain English while keeping the impact of the achievement. The call helped as I was able to explain what exactly I had done, and Poonam updated my resume and took notes in the call.

2. Essay Help- Content (Understanding profile and positioning of stories):

This was the step I enjoyed the most while working with Poonam. The discussions we had on the zoom call were very introspective for me, and Poonam helped me clarify my own goals and desires and then put them down into words. With the zoom meeting, I was able to put my thoughts into the right words and make a meaningful impactful essay.

3. Structure/ organization: (Organizing details to make the story flow better):

This was all Poonam – I completely used her pointers to create an interesting coherent flow in my essays. I would have been totally lost without this guidance. It helped to have some pointers for the structure and for me to think about what experiences I wanted to share and establish a flow that would keep my readers interested.

4. Editing Skills (Sentence structure, grammar, punctuation):

I was expecting Poonam to be great at this from all the reviews I had read, and the outcome was just as expected. She is an editing genius and helped keep my essays within word limit while also keeping the gist and main ideas impactful enough.

5. Answering queries:

I received some good suggestions and out-of-the-box answers to my questions that I posted in my drafts. Poonam was never pushy, but her experience definitely showed through all the answers to questions I had.

6. Turnarounds (Response time):

Just as expected and agreed upon – Poonam was very prompt to reply and always communicated if at all any turnaround was going to be late. I really appreciated her keeping me in the loop and openness.

I will recommend Poonam to anyone who is seeking advice to write great essays for MBA applications. Poonam helped me clarify my own reasons for an MBA. It was great having discussions over zoom meetings and just talking to Poonam as a person. She brought out my strengths and unique capabilities in the essays. I am delighted to say that I have received an admission offer from the Wharton EMBA program.

Admitted to McCombs with MER !!!

When applying to my dream business schools, I had only separated, pieces of ideas that I wanted to convey into the essays, but I didn’t know how to put them together. I learned about MER services which are highly recommended by the GMATClub community, made further research about MER and Poonam, and then quickly decided that MER is the perfect solution to guide me through the critical brainstorming process. I was lucky in making the immediate decision because available spots are filled rapidly, and I was happy to be one of a few candidates collaborating with MER each application round.

Poonam paid great attention to details and laid out the next steps for us to work on. It was so easy to talk to her because she cares about my story. She also made an initial evaluation of my profile and suggested which MBA programs that fit.

I’ve worked on my resume multiple times applying for jobs and other short programs such as the Global Energy Leadership at Rice, therefore I thought I was in a good spot to use the same resume version. And I also waived my right to check the LORs because I trusted that my recommenders knew me well enough to write those letters positively. Poonam helped me to understand what is needed in a one-page resume, there’s redundancy to be removed and information (usually be thought of as unnecessary) to be added. She also went beyond to advise me and offer her editing to clarify the sentences. My resume was presented in a transparent, connected, and sufficient. Thanks to her work.

Poonam gave me plenty of time to work on the questionnaire. It’s the next step after our zoom session to provide wider and deeper perspectives of my background, historically and emotionally. With her guidance and analysis, I answered the questionnaire only to realize that it was tailored to help me understand more about myself and my beliefs. The art of applying to business schools is knowing how to mix the significant desire of being successful (higher salary, reputation school, switching jobs, relocations, etc.) in the future with the humility of who you are as a person. Therefore, it’s a valuable time spent to think, answer, refine the mindset, and answer the questionnaire again and again.

She has the experience and wisdom to clearly understand my profile in a short time. She also knows exactly what characteristics business school will find interesting in a candidate and help me to spell out those enthusiastically. Organization of details was the most exciting aspect while working with her. With her review, everything I thought was perfectly structured was positioned in a stronger system. That helped me gain confidence in my resume and essay. She carefully paid attention to my background even in our first meeting before registration. So I had no doubts about her capability in sections that needed greater focus on detail. In fact, she beautifully broke the long sentences and divided them into more concise, simpler ones with carefully chosen words. I couldn’t and would never find her misses on word counting, grammar, or punctuation. Editing is her genius!

Poonam not only keeps our agreed timeline work but also understands that nothing is a fixed bullet point. I have a kid and a full-time job, therefore, I deal with the changed schedules all the time, and Poonam was so flexible, responsive, and patient to work with. And she always clarified my doubts/ questions in a super short time. She committed to deadlines and promises and let me know how many days she would take to revert while she was working on multiple applications simultaneously. They are solid commitments and I never got wrong with her response time. She helped me craft my resume and essays, and gave them a clear sense of purpose, conciseness, and strong voice about who am I and what I could bring to the class (in business schools). She always did repetitive reviews to guarantee there were no weak spots left in my resume and essays.

Poonam prepared me for a mock interview within two days after I apprised her of my interview invitation. It was a serious process of analyzing my performance so that I can equip myself better for the D-day. All actions and details were discussed by Poonam, and she gave tons of valuable advice that if I weren’t aware of, I would not have felt confident of having the important interview.

Application to business schools is not the same as applying for jobs but must be viewed as a learning process. And Poonam is a brilliant instructor for your learning. You will always expect your mentor to listen to your voice, understand who you are as a person, accept your failure, and encourage you to do the right thing; an instructor who is disciplined, experienced, and has a high value in your work. And you will find such personalities in Poonam.

I’ve learned so much from her and enjoyed every moment of working with her. If you’re thinking about business schools, I strongly recommend you reach out to Poonam and schedule your call with her.

I am happy to say that I have received an admission offer from McComb’s EMBA program, and I would like to say that this is my second MBA.

Thank you, MER (Poonam) for my Wharton EMBA admission

I came across MER during my search for an MBA consultant to help me with my EMBA applications for top business schools. I went through multiple other MBA consultant websites but found MER unique, after reading through the success stories and experiences of other MER students.

My initial call with Poonam was very affirmative and informational. Initially, I was not even considering applying to top business schools, but after talking to Poonam, I got the motivation and self-confidence that I should apply to top business schools. In my first call, I remember Poonam saying that you will only get a single chance to go through this wonderful application process. I didn’t quite understand it back then, but now after going through the process with her, I understand why. It’s an interesting process where you not only write application essays but also learn how and why you write them and what is admission committee is looking for.

Each counseling session was great and very informational. Poonam is very organized and has the editing process in place to speed up the application process. While writing essays, I learned a lot about myself. Poonam explained to me the STAR method to write situational essays which I am pretty sure will help me in the future. She also pointed out things that the admission committee looks for in LORs and suggested ideas that make your case more promising to the admission committee.

Poonam just didn’t only help build my resume, but also explained the entire process of how I should write the resume and what the admission committee is looking for. I believe it will help me in entire my career. I chuckle when I see my old 2-page resume, which was bad (No wonder, I didn’t get many jobs interview calls). She helped me reduce it to a very brief and concise one-page resume. This will not only help me apply for business schools but throughout the rest of my life.

She is very direct and knows what is important and whatnot.

Poonam not only edited my essays but also helped me pick the best stories to make my case very strong. She knows what stories will be appealing to add to the application. It is very natural for her to read your essay and point out what should go where. Going through the essay writing process, now I see how my essay transformed from my first draft to the final essay. Reading through the final essay, I didn’t believe my stories could be this powerful. She makes sure the essay flows nicely and stories are all lined up to show your candidacy.

Poonam not only makes sure the grammar, and punctuation are correct, but she structures your sentences in a very nice way. In fact, I was never worried about the word limit because I knew Poonam has extraordinary skills to cut down my essays to the allowed word limit without trimming my stories. She also makes sure to use simple words, so it looks like it is written by you and not by an English Professor.

Poonam is very knowledgeable and supportive at the same time. Whenever I had any questions about any of the application steps, I reached out to her, and she was always there to help me with my queries. The response time for essays was less than 12 hours and she made sure that my application was ready before the deadline. She is very responsive if you have any questions about the application process and makes sure that she answers your questions correctly.

One of the best things I learned through this process was learning about myself. She pointed out my weaknesses and highlighted my strengths, making my case realistic and strong at the same time. Personally, I think it is good because you get a very true opinion about yourself and how you are being portrayed to others.

Interview Prep: To be honest, my mock interview with Poonam was more rigorous and realistic than my real interview. It prepared me well for my actual interview with the business school interviewer. Poonam gave me confidence on how to interview and what should and shouldn’t I say during the interview. She made sure I am fully prepared for the interview. I remember, my laptop battery died during my mock interview with Poonam, and I had to leave the mock interview for a few seconds. She pointed out that I should be extra prepared for unusual events like this. She asked relevant questions and provided nice feedback towards the end of the interview. She also sent a detailed written feedback report on the mock interview which is always very helpful to go back and prepare.

I enjoyed the entire application process working with Poonam. One thing I really liked about Poonam is that she works with only 6 candidates at a time. That gives her enough time to read through your stories, understand your point of view, and provide feedback. Sometimes, it even feels like she is only working on your essays because she is totally invested in you. Working with her, I always felt motivated and inspired not only during essays but also during the time I was preparing for my EA exam.

I am happy to inform you that I am accepted into Wharton’s EMBA program. No doubt, I would like to recommend her to the prospective applicants. She has great English background and experience in writing essays for business schools and her style of working with each applicant personally makes her unique. I don’t think you will get the same package as her from another MBA consultant.

Received admit offers from UCLA Anderson and Berkeley Haas

I wanted to ensure I provide the best possible essays for my application such that I can highlight unique aspects of my story and ensure it aligns with the guidance from the Ad Comms. Based on the online reviews, I decided to sign up for Poonam’s help with my essays.

1- hour Zoom Session was the most productive and game-changing part of my essay writing experience. Poonam clearly explained how a reader who does not know me perceives my story.  She pushed me to probe myself deeper and identify unique aspects of my identity to complete the stories written in my essay. This session also helped us align on which aspects to highlight for which specific essay and how to balance between various attributes and cultural elements that B schools are looking for. Poonam spent a lot of time understanding my profile, and background and helped position the appropriate stories for the required essays. After we finalized the content, Poonam worked her magic through my essay drafts by re-ordering the content to ensure a smooth flow for a story and made it easy to read.

Editing is Poonam’s greatest strength. She made magic happen by editing the essays, reducing the word count by 200 words, and still highlighting the gist of the story and the emotions behind it. Her turnarounds were quick, and she was highly responsive in answering queries.

I have secured admits at UCLA Anderson and Berkeley Haas! Getting these admits has been a dream come true, and her feedback and editing skills have made a huge difference. Thank you very much for the excellent and timely help in making this possible.

I would highly recommend Poonam for essay and application services for B schools!
